Old Village, Mount Pleasant!
Originally from the Boston area, I find the Old Village to remind me of a New England village! There is such a cozy, comfortable feel as you wind through the narrow streets with unique homes framing the sidewalks. You will find small cottages and ranch homes sprinkled amongst large two story estates! There are new homes and homes boasting with history. All of the above is gently resting on the shore overlooking Charleston, Sullivans Island, and in the distance, James Island.
The Old Village is truly a unique and remarkable place to live. The wonderful quality of life is easily witnessed by all the people actively biking, running, walking, and walking their dogs on the meandering sidewalks and parks.
You have to see the park that is on the bridge at the end of Pitt Street. It was once used as a trolley bridge, then a vehicle bridge over to nearby Sullivan's Island. It no longer connects all the way. The remaining bridge has been converted to a park! One half is a walkway, the other half has a grassy lawn with park benches and palm trees.
The end of the bridge is a wooden pier built for the avid fishing fans. I just love this bridge - you can see the sunrise over Sullivans Island, the midday sun over Ft Sumter in Charleston Harbor, the sunset falls beautifully behind the charming steepled city scape of Charleston. Peaceful and amazing!
After touring around the Old Village you can enjoy a delicious meal at the famous historic Post House restaurant and Inn located in the heart of the Old Village. I hope you can feel my enthusiasm for this quaint village of Mt Pleasant. A rare find and a must see when you are here!
And, of course an ideal place to live!!
